The Second Week
As we enter our second week of practice, we are slowly moving away from solely working on conditioning and we are beginning to focus on specific events. We will be working with our returning athletes to improve upon their techniques while teaching these events to our new athletes. This is the time to explore and figure out which events you would like to compete in.
Also, at the end of this week, we will begin the process of setting individual goals for the season. Think about what you would like to accomplish this season and how you can train so that you can achieve that goal.

Be Ready for the First Day
With the first day of practice just around the corner, I want to remind all of a you about a few things. First of all, make sure that all of your paperwork is in. If you do not have the forms handed in, physicals up to date, or fees paid, you cannot participate. Second of all, be sure to bring proper clothes. The weather in March can change quickly. Be ready for both cold and warm weather, as well as rain. You never know what the weather will bring and we will practice everyday, no matter what the weather.
Finally, be ready to train. The emphasis at the beginning of the year is conditioning. You will be tired and sore after practice, but it will pay off in the long run.
I look forward to seeing all of you on Monday!

Get Ready for the Season
We have less than two weeks before track and field starts up. Be sure that all of your paperwork is handed in, your physical is up to date, and you have paid your activity fee. If you are missing any forms, you can download them here: http://www.pomperaug.com/athletics/forms/index.htm
I expect that all of you have begun to train for the season. The earlier you start training, the better your season will be. Runners and jumpers should be running three or four times a week, 30 to 40 minutes each day. Throwers should be running about three times a week, about 20 minutes each day. Everybody should be doing strengthening exercises such as push ups and crunches.
We have the potential to do very well this year, but it all depends on how you approach the season. Train now and reap the rewards in May.
