Heptathlon Results

On Tuesday and Wednesday, three of our girls competed in the Connecticut Heptathlon Championships.

• Jessica Miller placed 10th with 3532 points (a new school record).
• Kelsey Bean placed 26th with 3010 points.
• Nicole Mendelson placed 50th with 1476 points.

Class L and State Open Results

On Wednesday, June 2, the girls competed in the Class L Track and Field Championships and finished 7th, their best finish ever. Five athletes qualified for the State Open Championships while even more helped us score points. Highlights include:

• Kelsey Bean finished 2nd in the pole vault (9' 6").
• Alex Wilds was 2nd in the 300 hurdles (47.60) and 24th in the 100 hurdle (18.11).
• The 4x400 relay (C. Hutchinson, B. Mendelson, A. Ruane, A. Wilds) finished 2nd with a time of 4:03.3.
• Abby Ruane was 4th in the 1600 (5:07.01).
• Brittany Mendelson was 4th in the 800 (2:17.72).
• Jess Miller was 7th in the 200 (26.96), 12th in the 100 (13.32) and 12th in the long jump (15' 7").
  
• Casey Hutchinson was 11th in the 400 (62.06).
• Sara Greco was 11th in the 3200 (12:01.55).
• Kasey Dean finished 13th in the javelin (89' 1").
  
• Marina Alfonso was 15th in the 300 hurdles (50.58), 16th in the 100 hurdles (17.83) and 24th in the long jump (14' 4").
  
• Mackenzie Ahearn was 15th in the long jump (15' 4.75") and 25th in the 200 (29.66).
• Alyssa Fusco was 18th in the 200 (28.29) and 23rd in the 100 (13.79).
• Kayla Fox was 19th in the 400 (63.86).
• Rebecca Barolli was 22nd in the 300 hurdles (57.77).
• Bri Curcio was 25th in the 400 (64.83).
• The 4x800 relay (C. Rouse, K. Mooney, A. Jakiela, T. Goldstein) finished 13th with a time of 10:34.48.

At the State Opens Championships:

• The 4x400 relay (C. Hutchinson, B. Mendelson, A. Ruane, A. Wilds) finished 9th in a time of 4:06.28.
  
• Alex Wilds finished 10th in the 300 hurdles (47.77).
• Abby Ruane finished 11th in the 1600 (5:10.91).
• Brittany Mendelson finished 20th in the 800 (2:25.14).

SWC Results

Congratulations on a good day today. We finished 3rd with 71 points. Weston was 1st (97 points) while Bunnell was 2nd (81.5). We had two records fall today (1600 and 4x400) and a few first place finishes. Here are our scorers for the meet today:

• Abby Ruane won the 1600 in a time of 5:02.65 (school record).
• Brittany Mendelson won the 800 in a time of 2:18.89.
• Jessica Miller was 2nd in the long jump (16-06.5), 3rd in the 200 (26.91), and 6th in the 100 (13.18).

May 17 Meet Results

Today, the girl's defeated Bunnell (80.5-69.5), Masuk (99-51), and Lauralton Hall (123-27) to finish the season 13-1. With these victories, we are the SWC Colonial Division Champions for the second year in a row and owners of the best record in the SWC this season.

May 10 Meet Results

On a cold day at Joel Barlow, the girl's team walked away with three wins. We beat Joel Barlow 83-67, New Fairfield 99.5-44.5, and Immaculate 130-11. This brings our record to 10-1. Here are some of the highlights:

• Jessica Miller won the 200 m (27.3) and the long jump with 16' 0.5" and was 2nd in the high jump with a jump of 4' 6".
  
• Kasey Dean won the javelin (100' 6") and finished 2nd in the shot put (28' 3").
• Alyssa Fusco won the 100 m (14.1) and finished 2nd in the 200 m (28.5).
• Abby Ruane won the 1600 (5:24.0).
• Alex Wilds won the 300 m hurdles (48.3).
• Brittany Mendelson won the 800 m (2:24.0).
• Sara Greco won the 3200 m (11:38.9).
• Mackenzie Ahearn won the pole vault (7' 6").
• 4x100 relay (Wilds, Fox, Curcio, Fusco) finished 1st with a time of 53.0.

Hartford Public Results

We had seven girls compete in the 39th Hartford Public Invitational, one of the most competitive meets in the northeast. The girl's had some of their best performances of the year.

• Alex Wilds finished 6th in the 400 m hurdles in a time of 66.92.
• Kasey Dean finished 7th in the javelin with a throw of 100' 5".
• Jessica Miller finished 13th in the long jump with a jump of 16' 0".
• Abby Ruane finished 14th in the 800 with a time of 2:21.69.
• Sara Greco finished 14th in the 2 mile with a time of 11:39.54.
• Marina Alfonso finished 14th in the 400 m hurdles in a time of 72.05.
  
• Brittany Mendelson finished 16th in the 800 with a time of 2:22.17.

May 3 Meet Results

On a great day for racing, the Pomperaug girl's track and field team faced a very good Weston team and battled them throughout the day. While Weston beat us 79-70, they brought out the best in us as all the impressive performances show. Stratford and Oxford also had some strong showings and good athletes competing. We beat Oxford 105.5 - 42.5 and Stratford 118 to 27.

April 28 Meet Results

In our first home meet of the season, the Pomperaug girl's Track and Field team walked away with three victories. We beat Newtown 85.5 to 64.5; Bethel 89.5 to 50.5; and Notre Dame 128 to 4.

April 24 Meet Postponed

Today's home meet is postponed until Wednesday, April 26. It will still be at PHS.

O'Grady Relay Results

While a small group of runners competed at the 2010 O'Grady relays at Danbury High School, the results were very strong. Nearly every relay scored points and two team records were broken.

The day began with the Distance Medley Relay finishing 6th with a time of 12:58.69. This is a new school record. Sara Greco lead off with a 4:01.5 in the 1200 m, then Nicole Mendelson ran a 65.1 in the 400, Brittany Mendelson ran a 2:27.2 in the 800 and Abby Ruane anchored with a 5:24.9 in the 1600.

The following race was the 300m hurdle relay, which our girls finished 2nd overall. Alex Wilds ran a 49.05 to finish second. Marina Alfonso ran a 50.77 to finish 6th and Taylor Goldstein ran a 56.93 to finish 29th.

After a long wait, our sprint medley relay had a strong showing with a time of 4:40.4. They were lead by Jessica Miller (27.8 in the 200), Alyssa Fusco (27.2 in the 200), Alex Wilds (62.4 in the 400), and Cierra Rouse (2:43.0 in the 800).

Finally, after another long wait, our 4x200 team ran to a 5th place finish in a new school record time of 1:52.67. The relay featured Jessica Miller, Brianna Curcio, Nicole Mendelson, and Alyssa Fusco.

At the first meet of the year, the Pomperaug Girl's Track and Field team walked away with two victories. We defeated New Milford 85-65 and Brookfield 85-52. Top performances include:

The April 26 meet at Newtown High School has been moved to Pomperaug High School.

Parent Meeting

There is a parent meeting on Monday, March 29 in the AP room at 6:30. The purpose of the meeting is discuss the upcoming season and possibly organize food sales for our home meets and the SWC championships.

First Day of Practice

The first day of track and field practice is on Monday, March 22. We will meet in the main gym. Be sure to hand in the following forms to the athletic office before the first practice:
