SWC Track and Field Championships

In a very competitive SWC championship meet, our Pomperaug girls finished 3rd with 79 points. Scoring points for the girls were:

  • 4x800: 7th 10:41.98 (Kathleen Mooney, Sarah Zahran, Cierra Rouse, Alexa Jakiela)
  • 4x100: 5th 52.43 (Jessica Miller, Kayla Fox, Brianna Curcio, Alyssa Fusco)

  • 1600: Jeanne Theleen 6th 5:29.70

May 12 Results

Congratulations on the best season that Pomperaug Track and Field has experienced. Today you took on the best team in the conference and performed better than I could have asked. Although Weston did beat us (83.5 - 66.5), it was a close meet and that had many highlights:

  • Amanda Walters won the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles.
  • Mary Haase won the discus and shot put and finished 2nd in the javelin.
  • Jeanne Theleen won the 3200 and finished 2nd in the 1600.
  • Jess Miller won the long jump and tied for 3rd in the high jump.
  • Sydney Polke won the triple jump and was 3rd in the long jump.
  • Kasey Dean won the javelin.
  • Kelsey Bean tied for 1st in the high jump.
  • Alex Wilds was 2nd in the 300m hurdles.
  • Abby Ruane was 2nd in the 800m.
  • Morgan Keith was 2nd in the discus.
  • Marina Alfonso was 3rd in the 100m hurdles.
  • Alexa Jakiela was 3rd in the triple jump.
  • Mel Urquhart was 3rd in the shot put.
There were many excellent performances as we were able to add six new entries to states and six new entries to the SWC championships. Congratulations on a great regular season and good luck next week at the SWC championships.

May 5 Results

Congratulations, once again, on your 10th and 11th victories of the season. On a cold and rainy day at New Milford, the girls Track and Field team beat New Milford (87-63) and Oxford (110-39). The team was lead by:
  • The 4x800 team of Cierra Rouse, Kathleen Mooney, Alexa Jakiela, and Jeanne Theleen finished 1st.
  • Amanda Walters winning the 100m hurdles and the 300m hurdles.
  • Mary Haase winning the discus and shot put and placing 3rd in the javelin.
  • Jeanne Theleen winning the 1600.
  • Kelsey Bean winning the long jump, 2nd in the high jump, and 3rd in the 200.
  • Sydney Polke winning the triple jump.
  • Alyssa Fusco placing 2nd in the 100 and 200
  • Abby Ruane placing 2nd in the 1600.
  • Cierra Rouse placing 2nd in the 3200.
  • Jessica Miller placing 2nd in the long jump.
  • Kasey Dean placing 2nd in the javelin
  • Jess Horn placing 2nd in the pole vault.
  • Nicole Mendelson placing 3rd in the 400.
  • Alex Wilds placing 3rd in the 300m hurdles.
  • Alexa Jakiela placing 3rd in the 800.
  • Daria Krizan placing 3rd in the pole vault.
  • Morgan Kieth placing 3rd in the discus.

April 28 Results

Today the girls ran away from Brookfield High School with three victories. We beat Joel Barlow (94.5-46.5), Brookfield (123-27), and Stratford (142-8). This improves our record to 9-0. Congratulations. The team was lead with the following performances:
  • The 4x800 team of Alexa Jakiela, Jeanne Theleen, Cierra Rouse, and Abby Ruane won with a time of 10:44.3.
  • The 4x100 team of Jessica Miller, Kayla Fox, Brianna Curcio, and Alyssa Fusco won with a time of 53.1.
  • Kasey Dean was 1st in javelin.
  • Sydney Polke was 1st in long jump and triple jump.
  • Amanda Walters was 1st in the 100 m hurdles and 300 m hurdles.
  • Alyssa Fusco was 1st in the 100 and 200.
  • Jeanne Theleen was 1st in the 3200.
  • Abby Ruane was 1st in the 800.
  • Courtney Marcinzyk was 2nd in the 100 m hurdles.
  • Taylor Flemming was 2nd in the 400.
  • Kelsey Bean was 2nd in the pole vault.
  • Jessica Miller was 2nd in the long jump and 3rd in the high jump and 100.
  • Marina Alfanso was 3rd in the 100 m hurdles.
  • Kathleen Mooney was 3rd in the 1600.
  • Nicole Mendelson was 3rd in the 400.
  • Alex Wildes was 3rd in the 300 m hurdles.
  • Colleen Franke was 3rd in the long jump.

April 24 Results

Yesterday, Pomperaug improved its record to 6-0, beating Bunnell 78-71 and Masuk 88-59. Many of our athletes had significant improvements over their performances last week. The following are some of the highlights.

  • Amanda Walters won the 300 hurdles, finished 2nd in the 100 hurdles, finished 3rd in the long jump and was part of the winning 4x400 team.
  • Abby Ruane won the 800 and was part of the winning 4x400 team.
  • Kelsey Bean won the pole vault and was a part of the winning 4x400 team.
  • Jeanne Theleen won the 3200.
  • Ceirra Rouse won the 1600.
  • Jessica Miller won the long jump.
  • Kasey Dean finished 2nd in the discus and 3rd in the javelin.
  • Morgan Keith finished 2nd in the javelin.
  • Sydney Polke finished 3rd in the triple jump.
  • Mel Urquhart finished 3rd in the shot put.
  • Alexa Jakiela finished 3rd in the 800.
  • Christine Maksimow finished 3rd in the 400.
  • Marina Alfonso finished 3rd in the 300 hurdles.
  • Haley Moser finished 3rd in the high jump.
  • Taylor Flemming was part of the winning 4x400 team.
