Pre-Season Meeting

There will be a pre-season track and field meeting on Wednesday, February 27 for anybody interested in joining the track and field team. The meeting will be held in room 421 at 2:15.

Class L Championships

After a long, hot day at the Willowbrook track, the Pomperaug girl's track and field team placed 13th out a a field of 22 schools that scored. They finished the day with 19.33 points, their highest point total since at least 1997. Scorers for the team include:

• Kasey Dean placing 3rd in the javelin with a throw of 115' 1".
• Jessica Broderick placing 4th in the 3200 with a time of 11:20.
• Emily Pattison placing 4th in the 300 m hurdles with a time of 50.34.
• Jeanne Theleen placing 6th in the 3200 with a time of 11:39.
• Laura Rommelfanger tying for 7th in the pole vault with a vault of 8' 6".

Kasey, Jessica, and Emily all qualified for the state opens on Monday, June 4 with their performances.

Congratulations to everybody for a very strong showing and a good season.

SWC Championships

We had another strong showing at the SWC Championships today. We finished 5th with a total of 51 points. We had many good performances today, with many athletes contributing to our strong finish. Scorers today include:

• Jessica Broderick finished 2nd in both the 1600 and 3200 with times of 5:22 and 11:47.
• Jeanne Theleen finished 3rd in both the 1600 and 3200 with times of 5:28 and 11:50.
• Sydney Polke finished 3rd in both the long jump and triple jump with jumps of 16' 3.25" and 32' 10.75".
• Kasey Dean finished 4th in the javelin with a throw of 103' 4.5".
• The 4x400 team of Nicole Mendelson, Sara Shaban, Christine Maksimow, and Lydia Huebenthal finished 4th with a time of 4:20.
• Emily Hayden finished 5th in the 3200 with a time of 12:02.
• Emily Pattison finished 6th in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 51.56.

I am proud of how we performed today. We ran, threw, and jumped to the best of our ability and that is all that I can ask of any team. Nice work and good luck next week at the Class L championships.

Home Meet

Congratulations on a great meet. Today we had the best meet of the season, with many personal and team bests being set on the field and on the track. For those of you who left before the meet was over, the final scores were Pomperaug 109, New Milford 41 and Weston 78.5 and Pomperaug 71.5.

First place finishes include:

• Sydney Polke winning the long jump with a jump of 16' 11, the triple jump with a jump of 33' 7.5", and the high jump with a height of 4' 10".
• Kasey Dean winning the javelin with a throw of 101' 0".
• Jessica Broderick winning the 1600 in a time of 5:25 and the 3200 in a time of 12:02.
• Amanda Walters winning the 100 m hurdles with a time of 17.9.
• Emily Broderick winning the 300 m hurdles with a time of 51.4.

There were many personal bests set today, and I congratulate all of you. To those of you who had their last meet today, I hope that you enjoyed the track season and you continue to come to practice.

To those of you who still have a few weeks of competition left, these are the weeks that we have been training for. I hope that the next two or three weeks are as successful as today was. Once again, congratulations on a good meet and a nice season.

Hartford Public

We had three girls compete at the Hartford Public Invitational on Saturday. In a very competitive meet, we had three good performances from Laura Rommelfanger, Jessica Broderick, and Jeanne Theleen. Laura competed in the pole vault and finished with a height of 8 feet, 0 inches. Jessica and Jeanne both ran in the 2-mile race and both ran their personal bests for the event. Jessica finished 7th in a time of 11:29.29 and Jeanne finished 11th in a time of 11:38.66. Congratulations to all three athletes for a good day at a very competive meet.
